A Brief History of Spring Hill
Spring Hill was established in 1809 and has grown from a small farming community into a bustling suburb. The city played a significant role during the Civil War, notably in the Battle of Spring Hill, a precursor to the Battle of Franklin. Spring Hill was the site of the Saturn Corporation production facility, which operated from 1990 to 2007. The site is now a General Motors auto plant.

1. Rippavilla Plantation: Rippa Villa, built in 1855, was one of the premier farms in Middle Tennessee. On November 29, 1864, the home and the families who lived there found themselves in the middle of one of the most dramatic events of the Civil War. 2. Battle Of Spring Hill: Spring Hill was the prelude to the Battle of Franklin. On November 29, 1864, Confederate General John B. Hood attacked Union General John M. Schofield’s Union army at Spring Hill, resulting in the Union army slipping away during the night and towards Franklin, where the fighting continued the next day.
