The many indoor entertainment options, including the pool means your players and their families can enjoy Patterson Park Community Center year round!
Community Events
Community Events: Murfreesboro hosts numerous events throughout the year, fostering a strong sense of community:
1. Taste of Rutherford: Taste of Rutherford is Main Street's annual fundraiser, which is held on the grounds of Oakland's Mansion. Tickets get attendees access to over 20 Murfreesboro restaurants for tastings, craft beer from Mid-State Brew Crew, and music entertainment throughout the night.
2. Murfreesboro Saturday Market: Our Farmers Market features locally grown produce, locally raised beef, poultry, and pork, fresh eggs, and baked goods from local bakers. We also have area artisans/crafters at the market and feature local musicians each Saturday.
3. Christmas Made in the Boro Arts and Crafts Festival: On the first Friday night of December, holiday revelers gather around the historic 1859 Rutherford County Court House, for the annual lighting of the Rutherford County Christmas tree. Main Street organizes this event, featuring entertainment, caroling, the lighting of the tree, and a visit from a very special bearded gentleman. Bring your family downtown for dinner, view the live nativity, shop in unique stores, enjoy an hour-long program full of choir music, dancing, acting, and Santa.
Local Attractions:
Explore Murfreesboro’s attractions that make it a charming place to live:
1. Discovery Center: Chartered in 1986 as Children’s Museum Corporation of Rutherford County, the Discovery Center provides hands-on education opportunities for the community. An extensive grassroots campaign orchestrated by young parents led to purchasing a building and creating exhibits and programs.
2. Oaklands Mansion: A historic plantation home offering tours and cultural events. Oaklands began in the late eighteen teens when Dr. James Maney and his wife Sallie Murfree Maney moved to Murfreesboro. In 1813, Sallie inherited 274 acres of land north of the town named for her father, Colonel Hardy Murfree.
3. Cannonsburgh Village: Historic Cannonsburgh Village represents approximately 100 years of early Tennessee life from the 1830s to the 1930s. Within the village is a gristmill, school house, a telephone operator's house, the University House, the Leeman House, a museum, a caboose, the Wedding Chapel, a doctor's office, a general store, a blacksmith's shop, and the World’s Largest Cedar Bucket.
Local Amenities
Murfreesboro is home to a range of amenities that enhance the quality of life for its residents:
- Shopping and Dining: Murfreesboro offers a mix of boutique shops, restaurants, and cafes, while larger retail centers provide convenient access to everyday necessities. Some of my favorites are:
1. Jack Brown's Beer and Burger Joint: The burgers are 100% American Wagyu beef. Their specials are a creative twist on an American classic. My favorite is the Cobra Kai: Burger topped with cream cheese, pickled Jalapeños and Jalapeño jelly.
2. Toots: Rutherford County's oldest full-service restaurant Toot's specializes in freshly prepared American-Style food and have been in business since 1985. The family-friendly restaurant's menu includes chicken wings, sandwiches, salads and more.
3. Slick Pig BBQ: For more than 20 years, Slick Pig BBQ has been serving up hickory smoked meats. You can come by any time of the day and find the five big smokers in operation. Their sides and desserts are homemade family recipes passed down for generations through the family.
4. Mayday Brewery: Sample award-winning craft beers alongside delicious pub fare.
- Healthcare:
Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital: A full-service hospital with 24/7 emergency care. We deliver care for life-threatening injuries and illnesses. Our care teams listen to quickly understand your health needs and deliver care that's right for you. Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford is a destination for specialty care - including heart and vascular care, orthopedics, intensive care, maternal-fetal medicine, and obstetrics and maternity services.
- Entertainment and Culture:
1. Murfreesboro Little Theatre: Murfreesboro Little Theatre is the oldest community theatre in Rutherford County, having been established in 1962. Over the past 60 years, MLT has provided accessible, inclusive theatrical entertainment for the Rutherford County community across the area.
2. Catfeine Cat Cafe: A cozy lounge where you can enjoy local roasted coffee in the company of adoptable rescue cats.
3. The Earth Experience, the Middle Tennessee Museum of Natural History: This is not your typical natural history museum! They have an interactive, dynamic museum where visitors will not only see ongoing research and activities, they will be offered chances to participate.
